Virtual Fitting Advice
If you’re not able to visit us
in person but still want to make sure your child is wearing the right size
footwear, Stepping Stones Shoes also provides virtual shoe fitting advice.
Simply follow the instructions
on this page, contact us with the measurements via email to
enquiries@steppingstonesashbourne.co.uk, or call us to discuss on 01335 300374,
and we will use our expertise to advise options from our wide range of brands
and styles. We can then post your choice/s to you and if you require more
support, we can arrange a video call to talk you through the fit.
Please provide as much information as you
can about your child's current shoes (including size, style and brand) along
with photos and measurements. Because we're unable to examine your child's feet
in the same way we would if we saw you instore, the measurements we ask for
help us to use our extensive knowledge and experience to find the right footwear
for your child.
Drawing around each of your child’s feet will
give us a good idea of their foot shape and size. Photos of their feet plus the
shoes they are currently wearing will help too.
Step 1: Prepare the feet
Before you start, make
sure your child is wearing socks and standing with their feet hip-width apart with
their weight evenly spread. To ensure that your
child’s toes are completely flat (and not curled under), use your fingers to
put a bit of pressure on the top of their foot.
Step 2: Measure length
As you draw around the heel area, make
sure the pen is upright and not held at an angle, so you get an accurate
measurement of their foot length. Be sure to measure from the heel to the
longest toe, which may not be the big toe - every foot is unique! It is
important to measure both your child’s feet because many of us have one foot bigger
than the other. We will always fit the shoes to the larger foot.
Step 3: Measure width
If you have a tape
measure, place it around the widest part of their foot (from the big toe joint
to the little toe joint) to give us an idea of the width of each of your
child’s feet.
Additional photos
If your child has removable insoles in their
current shoes (some shoes don’t), please send us a photo of them standing on
those insoles (looking straight ahead, not bending down) making sure that their
heels are placed at the back of each insole. This will help us to gauge how
much they have grown.
Please email your photos and measurements to enquiries@steppingstonesashbourne.co.uk
When we have received these (along with any other helpful information
you can provide), we will choose a selection of shoes we think are a suitable
fit for your child and send you links to the appropriate products on our website
in the size we think will fit best. You can click on the links to order the
shoes directly from our website.
